A Telephone Company does not sell a physical product to its customers. Instead, it provides services, based on a large physical infrastructure. To obtain telephone service, a customer "rents" communication space on the telephone company's network.

A Telephone Company product framework structure follows the generic product lifecycle: Service Defining - Service Developing - Service Ordering - Service Supporting. However, in this case Service Ordering is split into three core processes, to reflect their displacement in time:
  • Service Activating
  • Service Using
  • Service Billing
