In this architectural diagram, the core processes are shown as vertical red bars. There are two sets of core processes. One set links the product subsystem structure to the customer market. The other set links the resource subsystem structure to the supplier market. In the basic enterprise architecture, there are four product core processes and four resource core processes.

Each combination of red core process bars and blue subsystem bars forms a Framework. The top grid is referred to as the Product Framework, while the bottom grid is referred to as the Resource Framework.
